Frost-resistant pots

Every year, every gardener and lover of nature faces preparations for the winter season. Special attention needs to be paid to potted plants and checking if the pots are suitable for keeping them outdoors at sub-zero temperatures. In such situations, frost-resistant planters or pots are well worth considering - unexpected necessity of saving a plant from a cracked standard pot in the middle of winter is not one of the most pleasant weekend activities.

The desire to surround yourself with beautiful flowers and plants is nowadays not only the domain of people owning a garden. Flowerbeds on terraces and balconies are becoming more and more popular even with apartaments owners. Before each winter, it is worth taking a closer look at our plants to make sure that the more thermophilic ones can be hidden inside for cold days and nights. Should we worry about the plants that are supposed to be safe outdoors all year round? As long as they grow in pots, we need to check a few things to make sure that both the plant and the pot will survive the frost. Why choose frost-resistant pots? We'll look into it in a minute.

Good Preparation

Potted plants that spend the winter outside your home should be properly cared for before the first frosts arrive. First of all, we need to pay attention to the planter itself. If it is made of ordinary plastic, it may turn out to be too thin and will require additional insulation. The use of thick pots seems to be a common solution, but remember that they may crack in the frost, which is especially true for low-quality materials. The best choice will be properly prepared frost-resistant pots of high quality, which can be used both in frosty conditions as well as during periods of very high temperatures. An architectural concrete pot with its excellent frost-resistant properties is perfect for this purpose. It is important that our pot has a water drainage hole for the winter. Keep in mind that accumulated water and moisture, which will be drained slower during cold days, can destroy potted plants. An interesting piece of advice is also to place the pot itself on a wooden grid, a footer or any other type of elevation, which will ensure that no dripping water will accumulate under the pot (this may cause further damage to the roots, which in extreme cases may also freeze). That is why it is so important to choose a pot that has suitable insulation protecting plants during winter. Our pots have appropriately insulated bottom and walls, which allow the roots to acclimatise better (slower) to severe frosts. By choosing our frost-resistant and insulated pots, you can be sure that the insulation is durable and thick enough.

Frost-resistant pots – choose the right one

What is particularly amazing about the above mentioned architectural concrete pots is their versatility. By choosing the right style and size right after buying a plant you can replant it and forget about any additional activities before winter. Frost-resistant architectural concrete pots are a perfect home for our perennials or ornamental plants from the very start. Not only do they blend perfectly well with the architecture of a garden, but they also look impressive on terraces, balconies and in interiors. It is advisable to choose a pot of the right size for the adequate growth of the root mass and its protection later in the winter. When the frost comes, our plants are more prone to damage if the pot is not large enough. It is in small containers that the soil freezes more easily, which, of course, can destroy our plants. Architectural concrete pots come in a variety of sizes, including the XXL version – for really large shrubs and medium trees, which allows you to choose a beautiful, durable and functional pot for your garden and your home.
